Welcome!

I love wood.  The colors, grains, smell and life-marks of each piece knock my socks off.

When a chunk of wood starts to spin on the lathe and shavings fly, I sometimes have an idea in mind but more often than not, what eventually comes off the lathe is a mix of nature, luck and whimsy.

There’s something tremendously satisfying about starting with a piece of dead tree and ending up with a useful and beautiful bowl, dish, or whatever.  One thing’s for sure- since I started turning, I look at my neighbors’ firewood piles differently!

I put this site together- with tons of tech support from my son Luc- to remember each piece, share them with friends, and, I admit, to show off a little.  Nearly everything on this site has been sold to support the Community Care Clinic of Boone, NC, USA, the only free medical facility serving low income, uninsured folks in this part of the High Country.  The  alchemy of turning a piece of firewood (pun intended) or a fallen tree into health care is crazy.  You’re invited to chip in at ccclinic.org.

Thanks for stopping by!
